Secondary Reading: Strengthening Intervention Through Comprehension

During this presentation, participants will develop an understanding of evidence-based strategies to enhance reading comprehension instruction for students in grades 6–12 reading intervention classes. Drawing from the Practice Guide, Improving Adolescent Literacy, the presentation explores key recommendations including direct and explicit instruction of comprehension strategies, fostering student-generated questions, teaching gist routines and promoting self-monitoring during reading. Attendees will engage in hands-on activities and collaborative planning to apply these strategies effectively within reading intervention settings.
