Presentation Details

K-12 Computer Science

In this presentation, participants will learn how the new computer standards (CS) align with the formula for success. Many will form a definition of CS, based on the Florida Department of Education: “The study of computers and algorithmic processes, including their principles, hardware and software designs, applications, and their impact on society, and includes computer coding and programming." Participants will understand how computer science influences key concepts and principles across various careers and daily life, aligning with Florida’s K–12 standards. They will brainstorm strategies to increase student enrollment in the updated computer science course and explore how real-world applications align with standards and work skills, applying new techniques to enhance student engagement. Note: This presentation applies to general education courses, not CTE, but certification courses must align with Florida’s CS standards.
